Kara Badder
I was born Kara Lauterbach, and raised in Oldham County to love and appreciate learning by my parents who were in the education system (Mom- Shirley- was a science teacher and later a principal/deputy superintendent until she retired in 2013. Dad- Steve- taught science until he retired at the end of 2014 school year).
After graduating from Bellarmine University with a double major in 5-9 Science education and k-12 Special education, I taught six years of middle school science at Oldham County Middle School in seventh and eighth grades. I married my husband and moved to Bullitt County back in 2010 and commuted to Oldham for those six years. After having my son at the end of the 2014 school year, though, I decided that it was time I worked closer to home and my family. Bernheim Middle School was a perfect match for a science teaching job in my new life as a working mother.
Currently, I teach 8th grade Science at Bernheim Middle School, and though there are a lot of differences and new programs/rules to learn as a teacher from a different district, I am confident that I can be just as good a teacher here as I was in Oldham County. It will take time to get used to everything new and being a new mom (like when am I supposed to grade student work now??? lol), but I just like to think that, that is part of the adventure!
